Don Marinelli, Executive Producer, Professor of Drama Entertainment Technology Center, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA A CURRICULUM OF THE 21st CENTURY: STORYTELLING, ARCHITECTURE, TECHNOLOGY & EXPERIENCE (SATE) ABSTRACT How does one teach 21st century digital natives? This current generation of young people is arguably one of the most astute, technically-savvy, and socially aware generations in history. Standard, state-sponsored education, however, has been slow to recognize this paradigm shift. The Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center confronted this dilemma by initiating a daring, dynamic, cutting-edge curriculum called SATE. Storytelling, Architecture, Technology, and Experience, constitute the four building blocks of knowledge and creativity. And, in the thirteen years of the Entertainment Technology Center, this approach has been rewarded with some truly incredible, visionary, commercially-viable technologies and experiences. This talk will detail how the SATE curriculum has been implemented along with the astonishing results.
